Pain au chocolate is also known as chocolate bread.
You can find a "Pain au chocolat" key in the saved game file:

- number gamePainsAuChocolatMax = X
It can be crafted for a chocolate bar and a hundred candies in The Castle's big room.
You can give a Pain au chocolat to The Wishing Well to gain the following bonuses (Called "Gifts")
More Power: 20% more attack damage (Maximum = Infinity, but you can still get the same gift)
More Health: 20% more health (Maximum = Infinity, but you can still get the same gift)
More Magic: 15% less spell and potion cooldowns (up to a Maximum of 90%) This means the max Pains au chocolat for this bonus is 6.
